Edgecomb Eddy School’s staff continues to maintain the highest quality of teaching with an efficiency and concern for our sensitive budget limitations. With the concern of school consolidation and state subsidy cuts looming over us, this year presented us with new challenges; however, our accomplishments far outweigh them. Following are some of the highlights:
Our
social studies theme for the year was international studies, taking the children
on imaginative journeys across the 7 continents. Cross-curricular work in all
subject areas, including music and art, provided the children with opportunities
to delve into the cultures of many parts of the world. We were fortunate to
find creative funding to supplement our curriculum, providing the following
programs to our students:
o Karen Montanaro, mime & movement artist
o WinterKids & Camp Kieve collaboration to provide instruction on combining healthy nutrition and outdoor physical activity
o Harlem Superstars presentation on making choices to maintain healthy lifestyles
o Internet Safety workshops for children, as well as adults
The staff pooled its resources to provide a professional lending library, where
teachers & administrators swap educationally-based literature, as well as
a lending library provided for parents to borrow books on child-related issues.
Thanks to our numerous volunteers, we were able to offer Odyssey of the Mind,
Drama Club and a History & Gardening Club to our students. As always, we
are grateful for the support of our Parent-Teacher Club, headed by Mrs. Monica
Elder, for the countless hours spent supporting our school.
